National Fire Service Week 2022 observes by Indian Fire Service – PAN INDIA

National Fire Service Week 2022 is observes all across the Nation with Pride and Honor of the 1944 Martyrd Bravehearts with a Motto and aim “Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity”

National Fire Service Day commemorates the 71st Fire Service personnel who lost their lives during an unfortunate and massive explosion at Mumbai dockyard on April 14, 1944. On this day, everyone gives tribute to all those brave firefighters. The government of India also honours fearless firefighters on NFS day who have done extraordinary work in their service.

The ship was parked at the port on April 12 without any safety concerns but on April 14, it caught fire and was exploited due to the storage of 1400 tonnes of explosives. The ship was razed by two giant blasts and its debris was dissipated in the surrounding areas.

The entire Victoria dock was abolished due to fire and explosion. In this catastrophe, approximately 800 to 1300 people lost their lives. The explosion’s intensity was tremendous. Consequently, the ravaging fire also destroyed some of the highly developed and economically workable areas of Bombay.

NATIONAL FIRE SERVICE DAY: SIGNIFICANCE

Remembering the tragic incident at the Mumbai Dockyard, people pay their respect and homage to the outstanding firefighters for their incredible commitment and sacrifice.

To prevent such fire explosions in the future, and increase awareness among civilians and school children, several organisations conduct training, drills and rehearsals to ascertain the preparedness to fight fire emergencies. Additionally, Fire service week is observed from April 14 to April 20 throughout India to spread awareness among the public regarding fire safety.

TO this Day NATIONAL Fire Service Day/Week (NSW) is observed every year in India from April 14 to 20 to pay homage to those brave fire fighters, who sacrificed their lives in line of their duty on April 14, 1944.\

Credit for taking initiative action regarding observation of ‘Fire Service Week’ goes to the Standing Fire Advisory Council (SFAC). The council members decided in the very first meeting (February 1956) to observe a ‘Fire Prevention Week’ simultaneously all over the country once in a year.

Every year, the Office of the Director General, Fire Service, Civil Defence and Home Guards, New Delhi, proposes theme for the commemoration of National Fire Service Week. This year’s theme is ‘Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity’. During the week, different types of public engagement activities are executed in India.

This year, the National Fire Service College (NFSC) Nagpur is also commemorating the National Fire Service Week from April 14 to 20 by organising various events in the college and also for the public and schools.

On April 14, 2022 at 0800 hrs, wreath laying ceremony at ‘Martyrs Column’ was carried out with full honour to the gallant fire fighters by R S Chaudhari, Director of the college. Thereafter, he garlanded the portrait of Bharatratna Dr B R Ambedkar.

A rally comprising of 300 students of Fire Engineering, Trainee officers of Divisional Officers’, Station Officers’ and Sub Officers’, courses, demonstration team and staff with all modern fire fighting equipment, vehicles and appliances proceeded for march from NFSC premises towards Nelson Square, Sadar Square, Katol Road Square, Rajnagar culminating back at NFSC.

Cyclothon Rally was Held all across India in the Capital by the Delhi Fire Service then Punjab Then in Hyderabd followed by Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services Goa organized GOA FIRE CYCLOTHONE 2022 On 17.04.2022 as a part of Fire Prevention Week to create awareness amongst the general public. Advocate General of Goa flagged off the event. 250+ cyclists participated in the event.

PMC Pune Fire Service Week with organising an. informative and demonstration about fire was shown at Inamdar Public School, Camp. Teachers and students were present at the event while Fire Officer Prakash Gore and Jawan as well as Safe Kid participated.
