In India, as in the rest of the world, buildings today need to comply with strict fire safety codes and regulations. Residential and commercial spaces built without a proper fire safety system in place can prove disastrous in an event of an outbreak of fire. A comprehensive fire safety system can save lives and property in the initial crucial moments before fire tenders arrive at the site of the accident. A fool-proof firefighting system can mitigate the effects of a fire before emergency services arrive, however prompt they might be. Untoward incidents like clogged roads or poor road conditions can prevent emergency services from arriving expeditiously and hence having an efficient fire safety system in place cannot be ignored.

Merit Fire and Power Piping System Pvt. Ltd. (MFPPS) caters to this industry of commercial, industrial and residential firefighting. Their mission is to make homes and workplaces safer and productive. To achieve this, optimum piping products with infallible performance are selected cautiously and consciously. Extending first class service gains the trust of clients, ensuring a long-lasting partnership.

Merit Fire and Power Piping System Pvt. Ltd. was founded in 2008 and since then has grown in leaps and bounds with several successful projects to its credit. It is run by a highly qualified and experienced team, with a penchant for quality and reliability, with a rich and extensive exposure in Piping and Fluid Engineering, Project Management, Procurement & Logistics.

Currently, Merit Fire and Power Piping System offers a full range of UL/FM /Vds/LPCB / CE approved valves, mechanical grooved couplings, grooved fittings, and pipe processing tools to provide efficient, cost-effective designs, installation and solutions. With offices in Navi Mumbai, Karnataka and Kerala, MFPPS gives clients from across the country confidence to avail its services.

Why should one opt for a grooved system design? Is it expensive?

Sometimes, doubts arise when it comes to investing considerable sums of money into a grooved piping system when the same components can be procured at a lower cost in a welded system. What one must understand is that the installed cost of the system is comparable to the installed cost of a welded system, when we factor in the manpower and time saving.

1 Grooved systems are dependable and easily installed without creating a mess. It is an alternative way to join pipes as opposed to welding, threading, flanging and soldering. The process begins with rolling grooves onto the ends of pipes. Fittings, valves and other components are manufactured with the same grooves. Couplings with pressure withstanding gaskets designed to fit in the grooves are used to join grooved pipes to each other or join grooved components to pipes. When the grooved components are connected by the couplings with gaskets, the result is a pressure tight pipe system. Couplings are composed of three parts-the housing which encircles and contains the gasket, the gasket, and the bolts used to hold the individual segments of the coupling in place. The gasket acts against the internal pressure or vacuum. The coupling along with the gasket thus runs around the circumference of the pipe restraining the pipe ends from separation. Pressure responsive gaskets work in both pressure and vacuum applications. Rigid couplings are couplings which have a male-female joint for a rigid lock. Flexible couplings allow for pipe expansion or contraction thus minimizing or eliminating the need for expansion joints. The couplings engage the pipe around the entire circumference and restrain the pipe ends from separation due to pressure or other forces up to maximum rated working pressures. Thus, a coupling is a self-restraining joint. The resilient elastomeric gasket and pre-designed gap of the coupling can help isolate and absorb noise and vibration. Flexibility designed in the coupling absorbs and eliminates stress from buried pipes or those stresses induced by seismic tremors. This flexibility also accommodates for any misalignments caused due to uneven surfaces and can provide for pipe movement up to the design maximum for the specific size and type of coupling being utilized.  Couplings can be dissembled easily permitting maintenance and servicing of pipe systems. It also facilitates periodic rotation of pipe to distribute internal wear from slurries or other abrasive materials. This rotational capability of grooved systems can extend the lifespan of the pipe networks which carry slurry or coarse material, like those carrying sewage or pipes in mining operations.

The benefits of using grooved couplings over welding cannot go unmentioned. There is no longer a need for “hot works” permit, no need for a fire lookout, no smoke damage and no need for a skilled welder. It’s faster, clean and non-intrusive to existing structures. It can be installed in confined spaces where welding is not possible. Use of rigid or flexible couplings allows for system flexibility and for easy system accessibility meaning easier piping changes and maintenance. The prefab capabilities of grooved systems are an important point that cannot be overlooked. The piping can be prepared in advance offsite allowing for easy installation onsite, ensuring manpower and cost saving. Because each coupling can be easily taken part, hassle-free access to internal piping is achieved. Use of grooving machines also ensures a consistent groove every time. It also provides ease of joint repeatability. Grooved systems are recognized by ANSI and ASTM as a standardized system. Its applications include use in carrying hot and cold water, use in air handling units, dual temperature systems, heat pump systems, storm or sewage ejection systems, domestic water systems, oil fields, mining and also fire protection. Merit Fire and Power Piping System is dedicated to projects using this versatile system. Being a leading importer of quality ductile iron grooved fittings, couplings and valves, clients can rest assured about product quality and longevity. MFPPS recommends use of grooved fittings and couplings sold under the MECH brand by Jinan Meide Casting. Production of fittings is in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. It also complies with most of the international certifications in the industry including UL/FM of US, VdS of Germany, CE (PED) of Europe, LPCB/WRAS of UK etc. An exhaustive product catalogue combined with the technical expertise of Merit Fire and Power Piping System, gives clients assurance that they will receive the best products and ideal configurations required for their project.

Along with supplying grooved fittings and providing optimal engineering solutions to its customers, Merit Fire and Power Piping Systems Ltd. is also involved in supplying pipe processing machinery. Roll grooving machines, pipe cutting machines, hole cutting machines, pipe threading machines and pipe bending machines are also sold by the firm to ensure smooth progress of the project on the field without any delay. MFPPS recommends TUWEI machineries for stellar pipe processing needs. Their machines are engineered using the best raw materials and machined in fully automated CNC machines. MFPPS also provide servicing for these machines at its facility in Panvel and also training to workers on the field on proper use of pipe processing machines.

Merit Fire and Power Piping Systems partners with leading technical companies from around the globe and is ready to associate itself with potential clients in India who require piping solutions. Its motto is to closely understand the requirements of its clients and provide unfailing support through close partnership. MFPPS also helps customers to allocate their precious resources more productively and efficiently. MFPPS strives to bring a sense of pride to all those invested in the firm.
